It’s amazing how much plus size swimwear options have changed in a relatively short period of time. A few years ago, most plus size swimwear options were bland one pieces or tankinis, with no attempt to even approach the vast variety of style or attention to detail given to swimwear in straight sizes. In just a few years, we now have a bright landscape of options in a variety of cuts to suit the tastes (but not size) of a pretty wide swath, if not all, of the plus size customer base.

As a plus size consumer, I have learned to do most of my shopping online. Stores either offer limited plus sizing in-store or don’t feature my size at all so it’s pretty much a necessity. While products being only a click away may be dreamy in some regards, navigating varying size charts and unknown fabric content or quality can complicate the process. One product I was afraid to buy online for a long time was bras, but conquering the in-person bra fitting is one way I quelled some of the fears of online plus size bra shopping.

Ever since the initial launch of Nubian Skin, there’s been an increased level of coverage dedicated to brands making undergarments in shades of nude which look natural on a variety of skin tones. I’ve been very excited about the level of attention the issue and the brands have received, but disappointed that most of the write-ups haven’t included more options for bras in larger band sizes or mention of the fact that these lines don’t include larger sizes.

Lane Bryant’s Cacique line of undergarments is a mainstay amongst plus size shoppers. They’ve largely been unchallenged as a primary source of bras in particular because they are the most well known and universally available. My first fully fledged bra came from Lane Bryant many many years ago and I remained a loyal customer through significant changes in band and cup size. Now, at a 44/46 DD, I continue to shop there, and I’m not entirely sure why.
