Is there anyone more iconic in the lingerie world than Bettie Page? The “Queen of Pinups” has been an influence on American culture for generations, inspiring trends in beauty, fashion, and art. It’s hard to imagine a world without her; nearly everyday, I run across a Bettie Page reference of one kind or another.
Every once in awhile, and I do mean very rarely, I run across a collection that I wish I could keep secret. I feel so spellbound, so mesmerized, that trying to commit my sentiments to paper (or Wordpress) seems almost sacrilegious. There’s a power in secrets, in things hidden from sight and known only to a select few. In an era when most brands are clamoring for attention, Between the Sheets has gone in quite the opposite direction, releasing a new collection that’s elusive, mysterious, and utterly sublime.
For several seasons now, I’ve been enamored of Harlow & Fox’s gorgeous full bust lingerie. Crafted from sumptuous fabrics and exquisite laces, Harlow & Fox Director Leanna Williams pushes the envelope of what lingerie tailored for DD+ cups can be. I talk to so many people who believe lingerie for larger busts has to sacrifice glamour for fit and that any bra beyond a D cup must be plain, boring, and beige. Ms. Williams proves that there is elegant lingerie available in this size range, and I have no problems admitting I wish my bust was a little bit larger so I could take advantage of these brilliant pieces.
Though I often feel disenchanted with the lingerie industry (I decided to forego lingerie market for the first time in years this season because I was starting to feel like I wrote the exact same lingerie trend report every six months), there are still some pieces that take my breath away…like this new collection from Va Bien Atelier.
Since my last article on the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, we’ve seen quite a few updates. On October 24th, VS officially announced this year’s show would be held in Paris. On October 26th, they unveiled the 2016 Fantasy Bra, worn by Jasmine Tookes and encrusted with over 9,000 precious gems. On October 28th, they released the show’s full model lineup. Yet the big question, at least for me, is if VS will be able to overcome their abysmal ratings from 2015. At its peak, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show could claim over 12 million viewers. Now they’re just barely over 6.5 million, and viewership dropped more than 30% in a single year between the 2014 and 2015 shows.
