Review: Cameo Intimates Garter/Girdle Skirt

Editor's Note: As of February 2015, it appears that Cameo Intimates is defunct.

Above is the Cameo Intimates long line garter. Advertised as a shaping garment with firm control to flatten your hips and tummy, it is sewn from what appears to be stretch satin, available in seven colors (black, white, hot red, deep blue, wine, lemon yellow, soft pink), made to order in waist sizes 24"-40", and customizable with up to ten garters. This garment retails for $46.88 with the standard four garters, $53.83 with six garters, $57.83 with eight garters, and $61.83 with ten garters. Though this company is headquartered in Canada, all prices are in U.S. dollars.

First, I want to say some positive things about Cameo Intimates. Counting this garter belt/girdle, I've ordered three items from them; the other two garments were a bullet bra (the best bullet bra I have ever tried, by the way) and a boyshort panty. All their undergarments are made to order, and they also do custom work (anything from special colors to special sizing to completely new garments) on request.

Besides all this, their customer service is impeccable, and I'm sure I don't have to tell anyone reading this how difficult that is to find nowadays. Not only do they promise to resolve any problems you have with your garments, they also follow-up to make sure you enjoy them and are very quick to notify their customers of any problems with production. Obviously, I have nothing but good things to say about the company itself.

Now, on to the garment...

I ordered the long-line garter in wine, and the color is spot on. It's like a rich, burgundy claret. The garter is well-constructed with decorative, diamond shaped, tone-on-tone seaming across the front panel. The back is smooth with one large center panel covering the rear, and two smaller panels covering the sides and hips. The garters are sturdy, bright silver metal, but, unfortunately, completely non-adjustable. This item is well-elasticized and fits true to size. I only have one major complaint.

It is not a shaping garment.

You know my pet peeve is receiving items which don't quite live up to my expectations. If something says it's going to cinch my waist or trim my tummy or shape my rear, then it should do just that. Anything less is, to put it mildly, a bit disappointing. While wearing this garter, I felt absolutely no constriction on my tummy, hips, rear, thighs, or anywhere else. It fits like a very long garter belt or a garter skirt, but lacks the support and tension of a girdle, even a light control one.

I'm going to keep the long line because I like the color and I like the shape (I'm even tempted to order another in the dark blue color featured above); I'll just make sure I have lower expectations next time.

The Cameo Intimates long line garter is available here.
