10 Pieces of Beautiful Shapewear for the Holiday Season (and Beyond!)

In a lot of ways, shapewear gets a bad rap, and that's in no small part due to the preponderance of boring, beige, Ace bandage-style bike shorts. Yes, they might get the job done on the shaping and smoothing front, but they're just so plain boring (or, dare I say it, ugly), that shapewear conjures up feelings of duty and dread as opposed to excitement and enchantment. And you know me... I am all about making all the lingerie as exciting as possible. Shapewear included.

While the holiday season is also peak shapewear season (so many parties! so much food!), it goes without saying that the pieces in this article can and should be worn year around. And, in fact, since many of these items could be categorized as fashion pieces, if you wait too long, they won't be available the next time you're looking (this is especially true for indie brands).

Though I'm by no means a shapewear addict (nor do I buy into the notion that anyone "needs" shapewear), I can still appreciate having a smooth line under some of my tighter dresses and skirts. There's something to be said about the sensation of feeling held in and firmly supported, and if you feel the same way, I hope this post gives you some ideas for new shapewear to try.
