20 Fashionable Tights to Wear This Winter

Disclosure: This blog post contains affiliate links.

It's genuinely chilly outside now (at least if you live in the Northern Hemisphere), and as much as I'm loathe to do so, it's time to officially and finally switch over to my winter wardrobe. Goodbye t-shirts and tank tops (at least as anything other than layering pieces). Hello thermals and flannels.

The move towards warmer garments includes legwear, of course, and as you've probably guessed from the title, we're focusing on tights. Not only are tights wonderful for keeping your legs nice and warm (particularly if you prefer to wear skirts and dresses), they're also perfect for layering up under pants, jeans, or leggings. And since we are a fashion-focused lingerie blog, tights are awesome for changing your outfit up quickly, especially if you tend to wear a lot of the same style or color.

Now for a bit of bad news. Though our tights roundup is annual feature here on TLA, I confess to feeling a little underwhelmed by most of what's out there this season. Creative, exciting tights experienced a resurgence a few years back, but now there's a rather concentrated focus on the basics: plain pantyhose in shades of nude and black. I wonder if the global obsession with royal wardrobes has something to do with it, but regardless of the reason, I'd say the legwear market overall is markedly more conservative this year. That said, there are a few gems scattered about, and I've tried to bring them all together here. As always, there's something for every budget, from under $10 to over $100.

What are your favorite brands for legwear and hosiery? Anyone you feel I should know about?

Hey there, does anyone make stockings that are warmer, as in for winter wear? I just bought my first garter belt, and I’d love to wear stockings this winter, but thus far I’m only seeing the nylon variety – very pretty, but not warm enough for a really chilly day.

Hmmm…I’d try a specialty stockings retailer like StockingsHQ or Stockingirl. If push comes to shove, you could always buy a pair of wool or cotton tights and cut them off to make stockings too, I suppose.

Ah, down this end of the world we’re digging out the sunscreen. These are gorgeous! And the glittery ones are so fun.
