Lingerie of the Week: Elomi ‘Maria’ Basque

One of the complaints I frequently hear from my plus size readers is that there aren’t any nice, sexy pieces of lingerie (like bustiers, corsets, and merrywidows) available in their size. Well, I guess Elomi’s been getting the same e-mails I have, because they’re out to solve that with their gorgeous ‘Maria’ basque. I’ve seen this item in person at Eveden headquarters in NYC, and I have to confess, it looks even better face-to-face than it does online. The Maria basque is constructed of satin and lace. Three-part cups offer support, while the back of this merrywidow utilizes hook and eye closures. And if you’re a bride, this piece also comes in white… perfect for wedding gown underpinnings.

The Elomi ‘Maria’ basque is available in sizes 34E through 44G and retails for $115. The matching thong is $34, but in case you’re not a fan of thongs, HerRoom also has the coordinating brief for $32 (and in sizes up to 4XL).

What do you think of this piece? Is it something you’d add to your lingerie wardrobe?

  1. That’s a good looking piece there. I find that Elomi, Goddess and Dominique are the best manufacturers of corsets and basques for the curvy girl. Come every wedding season, I am forced to have some tough talks with fuller figured brides who have been talked into a strapless gown. The 44G essentially, pushes the limits of fabric and boning technology when it comes to “off the rack” corsets. Boning can buckle, center gore wires may not sit flat, and it could be less than comfortable. Size ranges are developed, tested and defined for a reason. Some styles just do not work well on certain body types. That being said, certainly a custom corset might be an option, but I tell my ladies to prepare to pay custom prices….

I am a 34E but a size 6. Where do I find quality lingere that is full busted but not Plus Size?

We have lots of articles on full bust lingerie on the blog. I’d start by checking our FAQ.

    • I am full busted but not plus size and normally wear a 30H but I found the Elomi Maria basque fit well on the loosest hooks in 32GG, surprisingly. Even though the brand is technically plus size, I would give it a try, anyway. They have it in your size.
