Holiday Lingerie Shopping Guide: Pin-up, Burlesque, & Retro Lingerie

Hey! Don’t forget to enter the Playful Promises Lingerie Giveaway!Between Mad Men, Dita von Teese, and the rebirth of Burlesque, people are getting passionate over all things vintage. I’ve posted a few of my favorite throwback designs below, but I want to know what you think of this trend.Yay or nay…is retro lingerie here to stay?
Jonathan Aston: $11.81
Nothing says “pin-up” like a pair of backseam stockings, and I adore the vintage-inspired fancy heel on these.
Figleaves: $96.50
Dita von Teese’s second collection for Wonderbra, this festive red bra and high waist garter belt (looove those button details!) is sure to please.
Babygirl Boutique: $123.90
I go ga-ga for sheer lingerie. Done well, it’s so seductive. Plus, everything in this range was designed by Bernie Dexter!
Hepburn & Leigh: $53.55 (with discount code WELCOME)
Kiss Me Deadly makes yet another appearance on the Lingerie Addict’s blog. I own this girdle dress in two different colorways, and it’s the perfect blend of practical and provocative.
Cameo Intimates: $89.76 [Editor’s Note: As of January 2015, this site appears to be defunct]
While I don’t yet own this garter panty, I did review the stretch bullet bra here. A bullet bra and full cut panty not only represent classic pin-up, they’re flattering on almost every figure.
Secrets in Lace: $52.99
Did I mention I loved sheer lingerie? Even better than sheer alone is sheer with some accompanying detail…like the pleats on this pin-up brief.
What Katie Did: $103.31
What Katie Did is bringing the bullet bra back in a BIG way after several recent features in Vogue. This set is both classy and captivating.
FairyGothMother: $314.59
A newcomer on the luxury lingerie scene, I am already enamored of Cadolle’s slinky take on your grandmother’s favorite girdle.
Looking for vintage-styled dresses to wear over your sexy new retro lingerie? Here are three that caught my eye…

Trashy Diva: $143

Heartbreaker Fashion: $55

Modcloth: $137.99

I love sheer lingerie, but always say no thanks to stockings with seams…. they seem to never look straight enough when I put them on. :D

I think pinup/retro revival styles are more "trendy" now, so in a few years the selection might be toned down, but a lot of people love the style just because it speaks to them and not necessarily because it's in style lately. So I don't think the big names like SIL or WKD will have much problem keeping their businesses afloat even after the trend becomes less mainstream.

We can hope that it's here to stay. Personally, I find retro lingerie much more interesting than a thong.

I'd definitely say it is here to stay. If Mad Men and Dita von Teese have anything to say about it, it will be around for a long, long time!! :)

If you love sheer nylon panties. dont forget about Nancy King Intimates, she makes a high waist 50s style pin-up panty, in super sheeeeeeer nylon, for about $5.00 a pair! cant beat that price.

AND they are made in the USA!

    21/12/09 at 13:22

I absolutely think retro should stay! I love this post and feel the need to polish up my under garments…thanks for the inspiration…xo

I don't think retro has ever left us, but the resurgence in media portraying the styles of the 40s and 50s has surely made it easier to acquire vintage-inspired pieces not solely focused on Rago girdles or pin-up sets.

My fear is that when this trend starts to wane, the inspiration will wane as well, and designers will lose interest, as with the trend comes the revenue.

Designers need to better embrace that not every woman is a waif, and more women conform to the curvaceous figure of Joan Holloway, and not Twiggy.

Oooh I really hope vintage lingerie is here to stay! I'm a curvy girl, so this is the only type of lingerie that looks good on me! :)

I say it's here to stay! Not sure it really ever left but has just been made popular again with Mad Men, Dita, etc. I've always adored thigh highs

I love your blog…i haven't seen a lingerie blog and your title is very clever…I can be quite dangerous in a lingerie store, I just want everything

thanks for the sweet comment about my necklace and entering the giveaway! I'll be having another one on my blog once I reach 100 followers

    have a nice holiday!

You and me both! Those sample sale websites are a godsend for me…have you ever tried Vente Privee where you are?

    @Couture Cookie
Backseam stockings can turn and twist about, yes. I've found that putting them on slowly helps, as well as wearing a garter belt with a minimum of six straps. More points of attachments equals less opportunity to skew.

    @Twila Jean
Thanks for the designer recommendation! I hadn't heard of them, and now I'm gonna go check 'em out. :-)

retro lingerie will always be cool i'm convinced. I love the high-waisted girdle type panties as well as sheer/ruffly–all on my wish list. Also got an email from the book people today, your book has shipped, hoping you'll have it by the end of the week or early next week for sure!

One of my favorite flirty tricks involves wearing backseam stockings and a nice snug skirt. Then go up to the object of your flirting and ask, "Could I ask a favor? Would you tell me if my seams are straight?"
Then do a little turn on your toe and take a step or two away, stop with feet close and one a foot or so behind the other, look over your shoulder at the target, and then look down like you're trying to see your seams. For maximum points, make sure to put a little S-curve into your spine with hands at or just below your hips.

Absolutely devastating. It works with all outfits that include backseams, but I've had the best luck with making people blush when I'm wearing a snug pencil skirt and a blouse.
