Corset Week: Mr. Pearl

If you're half as much of a lingerie addict as I am, you've likely seen the following photo (or one of its sisters) floating around the interwebs:

Ever since I first laid eyes on it, I've wondered who constructed this beautiful corset, and over the weekend I finally found out--it's Mr. Pearl.

While prepping this post, I realized how amiss I am to dedicate an entire week to corsets and not once mention Mr. Pearl's name. Please allow me to rectify that oversight immediately and offer my opinion on his work.

As personal corsetiere to celebrities like Dita von Teese, Victoria Beckham, and Kylie Minogue, Mr. Pearl is quite literally a corset maker for the stars. But he's also so much more. Mr. Pearl is an artist, a couturier, and perhaps the last of his kind. In addition, as you can see from the photo above, Mr. Pearl is an experienced tightlacer, wearing his own creations 24/7. As a further glimpse into his exclusivity, Mr. Pearl is the sort of designer who contacts you for a commission, not vice versa. Not surprising, considering his work is fit for a queen. His pieces are, quite simply, beautiful.

If you'd like more insight into the personality of this unique genius, my favorite interview with him can be found here. For my part, I think I'll just admire a few more photos of his breathtaking corsets.
