Walking into CURVE New York on February, 25 mannequins representing ten years of iconic lingerie trends greeted me. While the lingerie styles displayed were aesthetically diverse, all the mannequins wore the same size. I feel like that’s a metaphor for what it’s like to be plus size in an industry still very straight size focused. So much design innovation…but when it comes to those trends appearing in plus, it feels like we’re invisible.
After a few years of attending CURVEXPO here in New York, everything starts looking a little identical. I tire of the same brands producing the same styles in new colors every year. Unless it’s something I would personally love to wear, it’s hard for me to keep focus. Luckily, designers seemed to be a little more adventurous this season. Though I often feel disenchanted with the lingerie industry (I decided to forego lingerie market for the first time in years this season because I was starting to feel like I wrote the exact same lingerie trend report every six months), there are still some pieces that take my breath away…like this new collection from Va Bien Atelier.
