I’ve walked by Soma Intimates countless times while in my local mall, but I’ve never once thought to stop by and try them. Maybe that’s because they always looked kind of boring to me, like lingerie that was focused more on being practical instead of indulgent. But in an interesting turn of events, that’s actually why I’m excited to do this review.
For one thing, practical, everyday, well-fitting lingerie is becoming more and more important in my wardrobe (especially since my recent increase to a C cup). For another, there are thousands (if not millions) of women who don’t live near a lingerie boutique and for whom Soma Intimates is their closest solution.
Here’s the 5 second verdict: As someone who hasn’t bought a bra from a department store in years, I was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable the cami bra was. I put it on and forgot about it 5 seconds later, which is exactly what I want from my everyday bras.
Though I’m not exactly sure which model of the cami bra I tried, I think it was the Bridget Shimmer version based on the similarity between the lace. I sampled the size 34C up top, and the size L hipster on the bottom in the color navy blue. Soma Intimate’s bras go up to a size 38DDD, and the panties go up to a size XL.
The fabric of the bra is a nylon-based material that almost feels like a swimsuit. It’s not very luxe, but that’s not really what this bra is about anyway. The bra also has side boning channels which the lace attaches to. The lace is non-removable, and comes up about 3.5″ above the center gore. I wore my bra with a basic tank top and the entire band of lace was visible. The panty is made from a similar material with a lace overlay front.
If you’re a smaller busted woman, the lace can feel a bit intrusive. For example, I don’t have any cleavage to speak of, so it felt awkward to me to have all that lace just sitting on my chest. But if you’re a fuller busted woman who wants extra, seamless coverage, I can see this working great for you, especially since the bra comes in several colors.
I also felt like this was a good value for the price point with the bra retailing for $44 and the panty for $18 (both are on sale right now, by the way). In summary, I like this and I think it’s a good buy, especially if there’s a shortage of practical bras in your wardrobe.
Have you ever tried Soma Intimates? What did you think?
