Ask the Addict: Where Can I Buy Frilly Panties?

Angela Friedman "Jasmine" Ruffled Panties

Today’s Ask the Addict question comes from Tumblr follower PirateMasey who writes:

I want to wear frilly panties like you used to see on showgirls! Any recommendations?

Of course!

Playful Promises makes frilly knickers in magenta, black, and peach. Fairy GothMother also makes frilly knickers in black, red, white, pale blue, turquoise, pink, purple and blue. Pandora’s Choice also sells frilly knickers including the amazing (but, unfortunately now discontinued) What Katie Did ones. Finally, if you’re looking for something a bit more luxe, Angela Friedman makes the ultimate frilly knickers – silk charmeuse with yards and yards and yards of beautiful, showgirl-style ruffles.

Dottie’s Delights: The Magic Garden Collection S/S 2012

This probably won’t surprise you, but I look at a lot of lingerie. And especially with the popularity of Mad Men, I look at a lot vintage-inspired lingerie. Everyone lingerie company out there is slapping a little bit of lace on a bra and a couple of garters on a panty and calling it “retro,” “pin-up,” or “burlesque.” But nobody, and I mean nobody, is doing vintage-style lingerie like this.

I first posted about Dottie’s Delights in an Etsy round-up on girdles and garter belts back in 2009, and I’ve been a fan of her work ever since. This year’s collection brings all the talent and potential I first saw three years ago together, and magnifies it by a power of 10.

Not only are the pieces even more gorgeous in person (I had the pleasure of seeing them at this year’s Designer Lingerie Showcase), everything is so very, very vintage without looking the least bit stuffy or tired or overdone. I own a quite a few pointy bras and even more girdles, yet this collection has made me excited about them all over again. If you’re going to splurge on luxury, let it be this kind of luxury.

You can view the rest of the collection below and purchase from Dottie’s Delights previous collection on the website. You can also follow Dottie’s Delights on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. What do you think of “The Magic Garden?” Are you as excited about it as I am?

Yay! I Have My Burlesque Show Photos!

Two major things happened tonight, lovely people.
One, I got the photos back from my burlesque recital.  You can see one of them up above.  They’re pretty big files, so I’m sending the rest directly to my newsletter subscribers.  Sign up if you want to see them!
Two, I danced in my second burlesque show tonight.  It was a smaller venue with a smaller audience and the same routine, but it cemented my love of the tease.  I’m working on two new dances, and I hope to debut them in the next few weeks.
For now though, I’m going to bed.  The adrenaline is wearing off and I’m exhausted.  :-)

Lust: Playboy Sequined Lingerie

Between the costs of moving and the costs of living, I’m on a bit of a lingerie diet.  No new skivvies for the next month or two…though I do anticipate lifting the ban in time for a birthday splurge!  Anyhow, while visiting Sweet Cherry Vintage (one of the many amazing blogs on my blogroll), I ran across this article on Playboy Lingerie.

The good folks at Playboy have just released an updated version of their classic Bunny Corset costume.  While it’s not quite for me (I’ve seen better quality elsewhere for less…though without the Playboy name), this hot little number caught my eye.

I know, I know.  It’s cheap.  It’s trashy.  It’s tasteless.  It’s completely impractical.  But I love it anyway.  And I can’t help but think how amazing this bra and panty set would look on stage during my next burlesque performance.  What say you?

Have I (finally) lost my mind or could I pull off this over-the-top look?  Let me know in the comments!

Tinsel for Your Ta-tas: A Nippies Review

The glow from last weekend’s burlesque show is just starting to fade, but before I put away my afro wig and hang up my booty shorts, I want to review my choice of nipple covers for that evening…Nippies by Bristol6.

Many people have worn nipple covers, and almost everyone has heard of pasties, but Nippies is the best of both of those worlds. It combines the adhesive properties of a regular nipple concealer with the sparkly, jewel-like qualities of a pastie.

Bristol6 was kind enough to send me a sample of the sparkly gold stars pictured above, and they were absolutely amazing.  Not only did they completely cover my nipples, they also stayed in place through two sexy, sweat-inducing burlesque routines.  I wore my Nippies for a total of six hours, and they didn’t move, budge, or slip until I peeled them off at night.  Several of my fellow classmates complimented me on having such a nice alternative to traditional pasties.

There’s only one downside, but it’s a pretty significant one…you can only wear them once.  At around $7.50/pair, they don’t quite qualify as an everyday extravagance.  However, if you fan Nippies on Facebook, they’ll take 15% off your order and give you free shipping until May 1st.  Hmmm…maybe I should pick up another pair or two.

Disclaimer: Though I received my pair of Nippies free of charge, every opinion presented in this review is my own and is not influenced by Nippies, Bristol6, or any entities associated with them.  I just think they rock!  ;-)

OMG! OMG! OMG! I Just Had My 1st Burlesque Show!

I know that’s a lot of exclamation points in the title, but I positively cannot contain my excitement.  The past 24 hours have left me utterly exhausted, but I had to update everyone before I went to bed.  Last night was AMAZING.  I’m struggling to come up with words to describe the tangle of thoughts and feelings and emotions I’m experiencing right now.

There was the fear of performing, and then the rush of the actual performance, and then the realization that not only did people really dig my act, they actually thought  I was a sexy bombshell to boot.  I’m torn between the high of “Oh my gosh…I can’t believe I really did it,” and the low of “Oh no…I can’t believe it’s over.”

The indescribably awesome Lisa of Stocking Vixen and MyBackseam (the place to join if you’d like a naughtier take on lingerie and stockings than what I show here) was in attendance, and she had the following to say right after my performance:

“Treacle was the best one in the whole show tonight. A women behind me said, “wowwwww,” when Treacle got her jumpsuit off, and a guy yelled for an encore when she was finished. IMHO if she wanted to pursue burlesque, she absolutely could. “

And well…the pursuit of burlesque is what I’m thinking of right now.  Not only does my passion for burlesque nicely complement my addiction to lingerie, I’ve become absolutely enamored of the art form over the past six weeks.  I loved telling a story with my character, and there’s no comparison to the rush of a crowd whooping and hollering and cheering you on.  Burlesque 202 starts in a few weeks, and I’m seriously considering signing up for it.

Okay….enough of my gushing, right?  Photos and video are on the way and should be posted within a month.  The audience wasn’t allowed to take pics or video (for good reason…privacy is a big deal), so I have to wait on professional versions of both.  But I promise that as soon as I get them, you will too.

Thank you all so much for your messages of encouragement (both public and private) over the past few weeks.  Knowing that I had the support of my friends here really gave me the courage to see things through.

I’ve got lots of great things in store for the blog. Keep stopping by so you don’t miss out, and thank you, as always, for reading The Lingerie Addict!
