15 Black Full Bust Bras That Are Anything But Boring

Elixir Bra by Maison Lebjaby

One of my lingerie resolutions for 2015 may be a surprise if you’re a regular reader of my columns: I want to try to rediscover black lingerie. Like many full busted teens, I found myself trapped in a world of ugly beige bras at a young age. When I complained or looked for prettier solutions, I was frequently handed a plain black t-shirt bra as an alternative and told that this was as good as it was going to get. While the world of full bust bras has changed a lot, my feelings towards black lingerie of all types and styles hasn’t.

This is really unfortunate, as there are tons of beautiful black bras out there that deserve to be seen and worn. As a fan of intricate laces and creative details, I feel like I owe it to myself to try and reboot my relationship with black lingerie. It clearly doesn’t have to be boring! As usual, just click on the picture for more information about each bra.

A La Folie Bra by Huit

I’ve been in love with Huit forever. Their design details are some of the best in the industry, as demonstrated by this set. Who would have thought a simple pattern and some stripes could look so amazing?

Annabelle Lace Bra by Ulla

Ulla is a plus size bra line that I’ve been meaning to try for ages, so maybe 2015¬†will be the year it actually happens. These bras are luxurious, hand made and truly unique.

Bijou Soiree Bra by Elomi

This bra was a love or hate it piece when it first came out, which I actually think is positive – it definitely got a ton of buzz and represented a new look for full figured bras. If you’re fussy about your beige bra matching your skin tone, this obviously isn’t for you. Others have fallen hard for the easy fit and the boudoir feel of the bra.

Carmen Bra by Figleaves Boudoir

I’m channeling my inner Cora with all the black mesh lingerie today, but I really do love the details on the straps and panties of this set. It’s even better that it comes from a Figleaves house brand, which makes it extra affordable.

Carmen Longline Bra by Curvy Kate

I have this set in pink and I really love it, so I’m tempted to pick up this black version as well. If you’re unsure about sizing, I’d bump up a cup size since it does run a little small.

Dame De Paris Bra by Marlies Dekkers

Marlies Dekkers bras have always been eye-catching, but I’ve coveted this classic Dame de Paris bra for years. The details are simple yet striking and it would make a great layering piece.

Dita Bra by Curvy Kate

I’m so happy to see Curvy Kate taking their love of glitz to a whole new level with actual glitter this season. This set is beautiful and perfect for under your party dress.

Idina Bra by Panache

The Idina bra tends to be written off as another Panache basic, but I think it’s far too pretty to be viewed as simply another regular black bra. The lace is subtle and gorgeous, while the fit makes it work as a t-shirt bra as well.

Naoko Bra by Elomi

This set comes in both a longline and this standard bra, but the longline stops at an H cup. While I’d love to see Elomi extend their longline size range, I’m happy that nearly everyone will be able to access this beautiful set. I just got mine a few days ago and it really pops once you get it on.

Opera Half Cup Bra by Chantelle

If you’re a lace fanatic, the Opera bra is for you. This is exactly what classic black lingerie should be: sultry, sophisticated and elegant.

Pure Lace Bra by Sculptresse

Another bra in the “basic that is too pretty to be just a basic” category is this Pure Lace bra by Sculptresse. It’s also incredibly comfortable, which makes it a great set invest in.

Sheer Ribbons Bra by Elle Mcpherson

I’ve always really liked the Elle Macpherson lingerie look and this bra is no exception. It’s elegant and bold without being overdone.

Smoking Tuxedo Bra by Prima Donna Twist

The strap details on this bra are just amazing. Prima Donna is great at taking the standard t-shirt bra and dressing it up for different tastes.

Tantalize Bra by Figleaves Boudoir

This bra reminds me of various Art Deco patterns. I love the gold embroidery as well as the sheer panels that make up the cups. Just one more reason to give the Figleaves house brands another look – they really are doing some amazing things.

Elixir Bra by Maison Lebjaby

I’ve been hunting for a bra by Maison Lebjaby that will fit me for two seasons now, since I’m just one cup size off from fitting into their line. It’s bras like this that keep me hunting and trying possibilities. This set is everything that great¬†lingerie should be.

Which black bra is your favorite? Do you love or hate black lingerie?

I looked through these bras hoping that ones for bigger busted women weren’t like a great big truss.
    No change there.
All the bras for smaller women were delicate and pretty, but when you get to bras nearing my size of 40 H, they are so big and cumbersome. OK, so I will just have to keep on looking and hoping that one day a bra manufacturer will realise that us big girls want to show a bit of sexy cleavage, not hefty bra straps and loads of material !!

Hmmm…have you seen Harlow & Fox’s work? They’re a luxury full bust designer I like, and you may dig some of her recent work. It might also be worth taking a look around on Etsy.

However, it is worth saying that one of the reasons smaller busts have more delicate bras available to them is because the fabric doesn’t have to do as much work to shape and support a lighter weight. A bit of flimsy lace and tulle just doesn’t have the required strength to provide the amount of lift that many fuller-busted women want from their bras, which is why you’ll very often see that companies dedicated to full bust sizes won’t use them. That said, there are tons of small, indie designers custom-making bras, so if you’re looking for something soft and delicate, it might be worth getting something custom-made (keeping in mind, of course, that you likely won’t get the same shilouette from that kind of bra that you would from one of the ones listed here).

I’m ordering the Annabelle Lace Bra by Ulla for my wife. Very nice.

I tried the Curvy Kate Dita on today and it has a superfirm band so if you want to try that go at least one band size up from your regular Curvy Kate size!

    Hi Holly,
great selection, I especially like the bra from Huit although I’m sad that I don’t fall in the size range! Fortunatelly, Freya Rapture has a similar design and I hope Freya continues to let sister brand Huit influence its designs ;)
Btw, the first and last bra ist called Attrape-coeur by brand Maison Lejaby Elixir.
    Kind regards from Berlin,
    Anja
