New Portland Designer! Slips by Sarah Bibb

ALICE Slip by Sarah Bibb ivory w coral

Alice Slip

A few weeks ago, I was in Portland attending a blog conference, when I caught sight of a familiar slip in a store window. The store was Folly, and the slip was one I'd recently seen in a local Seattle boutique. Unable to resist checking out some new lingerie, I walked in and turns out the owner of the boutique was also the same person who'd designed those beautiful slips --- Sarah Bibb.

I love a good slip. They're my preferred item of loungewear, and I'm sad that they're not as popular now as they used to be. Fortunately, Sarah feels the same way and she's on a mission to bring the classic slip back in some new silhouettes and with the Pacific Northwest's trademark attention to ethical production. Currently, Sarah Bibb produces four designs. All are 100% nylon, and all are made in Portland, Oregon.

The Ava slip has a slimmer cut. Of the ones I tried (and I tried them all), it was my fave and the one I felt looked best on my body type. The Erin slip better accommodates a curvy figure or a fuller bust, and the Mary Beth is just a great, basic half slip. The Alice (pictured above, but not currently sold on the website) was my second favorite cut; I hope Sarah plans to bring it back soon. The Alice and Ava slips are available in sizes S-L (I wear about a M), while the Erin and Mary Beth slips are available in sizes S-XL. I thought all the slips were very nicely priced (between $45 and $70), especially for a small, indie manufacturer.

On a personal note, it's really exciting to me to see some new lingerie designers coming out of my neck of the woods. I think there's sometimes the impression that "good" lingerie only comes from New York or London or Paris, but there are tons of designers doing amazing things, and Sarah Bibb is one of many who's looking to make her mark in our increasingly diverse industry.

What do you think of Sarah Bibb's slips? Are they the sort of thing you'd buy? Share what you think in the comments.
