Holiday Season Shapewear: What to Buy for Your Body Type

I’m Jessica Fowler a shopaholic, workaholic and general fun loving fellow. I recently started my blog, Lingerie and Fashion, because everywhere I went, I saw clothing and lingerie that I would have loved to see on my own friends and family. So I decided to start my blog as a guide to women everywhere because we all need a little help sometimes. This post is all about how to choose shaping lingerie for the upcoming festive season.

As the golden autumn leaves slowly start to disappear and the chilly frost and snow begin to settle, it is time for us ladies to dig deep into our wardrobes and pull out our woolly tights and winter boots.

For me this can only mean one thing … the festive season is on its way. Like most people I enjoy tucking into a warm mince pie and cup of mulled wine at the local Christmas markets and at my parents’ house and my boyfriend’s parents’ house and at work and … ok so I love to indulge in the guilty pleasures of Christmas.

I look at the festive season as a bitter-sweet time in my life. All that socialising with friends, family and work colleagues, and endless eating and drinking, can leave even the Victoria Beckhams of the world feeling bloated and pudgy.

Yes I hear you cry, “STOP eating and drinking then”, but it’s so difficult when a beautiful turkey dinner or champagne cocktail is placed in front of your eyes.

So I have decided to make this “bitter-sweet” period 100% sweet, by researching into the lingerie market to find the perfect shapewear for all body shapes, that can give us all a little helping hand through the festive season. A little something that can shape and contour our curves back into our pre-winter shape.

Here are my recommendations for the perfect Festive Season Shapewear–

Very cute intro and I love your photo illustrations! If only there was an hourglass shaped fruit.

First, thanks for a well researched and illustrated piece.
Looks like I'm more on the banana side, and interestingly enough I decided last week it is time to update my shapewear inventory. After some research and testing in the dressing room here are the two items I came up with, both available at Nordstrom:
SPANX® 'Slimplicity Butt Boosting' Girl Shorts $68

The pads in the back are removable, and the piece is very comfortable and can be used as an everyday panty.

The top I chose is "DKNY Fusion Plunging Cami" $46, which must be a new item since I can't find it on their website and was introduced to to it by the clerk while shopping. Very comfortable and can be also worn without a bra if you so choose

Oh – and as for my favorite shapewear, I honestly think sleek high waisted panties don't get enough credit. They smooth your silhouette and help subtly define your waist, unlike low-rise underwear which can create muffin tops. I would wear the Rago ones basically everyday if I could buy them in bulk (and never wore jeans).

Thanks for the lovely comments ladies :) very kind of you all. You always see these magazines saying what shape are you, you wear this and it always gets so confusing!

So I decided to look for all shapes/sizes and use women as examples!

I hope that you all like and thank you Treacle for allowing me to guest post.

I found this quite helpful, and the “banana-body” suggestion is definitely pretty, but…$650 is more than a months rent. I’m pretty new at all this lingerie stuff and am just looking for something sexy to get my boyfriend for Christmas and would have appreciated something that wouldn’t take me three months to save up for. Otherwise, lovely article, and very helpful!
