Luxury Lingerie Sales: Selections from Myla, Wolford & Agent Provocateur

A lot of people don’t know this, but lingerie actually has seasons in the same way the mainstream fashion industry does.  And just like “normal” fashion stores have to clear out old merchandise before getting the new stuff in, so do lingerie stores.  What that means for you and me, as lingerie consumers, is lots of amazing sales on some of the most expensive brands.

Yesterday, I posted about What Katie Did’s semi-annual sale, and in less than 24 hours almost everything of note is sold out.  Fortunately, there are still a few other luxury lingerie sales in progress right now.  Wolford and Myla are both taking up to 50% off select lines, while Agent Provocateur is reducing prices by up to 75%.  Of course as with most good things, there’s a bit of a catch, and this one is the limited size availability.

If you are a B or C cup up top and wear a Medium on the bottom (i.e. you’re more or less average), your size is probably already sold out.  But if you are very curvy or very petite, you’ll likely find some great deals.  Here are a just a few of my favorite selections from each of the stores mentioned in the title.  If you do buy something, I’d love to hear about it in the comments.  Happy Shopping!

Myla Lingerie – Up to 50% Off

Agent Provocateur–Up to 75% Off

Wolford Online Boutique–Up to 50% Off

The What Katie Did January Lingerie Sale

Along with the Agent Provocateur sale (which is in its last few days) the What Katie Did sale is one of my favorite semi-annual events.  I love it so much because Katie, the designer and founder of the brand, doesn’t waste time with namby-pamby 15% and 25% discounts.  Everything on sale is a flat 50% off.  But if you see something you like, you’d better snap it up quick as all sale items are discontinued pieces that won’t be restocked once they’re gone.  Here are a few of my favorite looks–

Pigalle Morticia Corset
$130.00
What Katie Did Striptease Bra, Knickers & Garters
$54.00
Mae Underbust Corset
$100.00
Deco Bra, Waspie & Knickers
$90.00
Dolly Overbust Corset
$100.00

The Look for Less: Alexander McQueen Lace Leggings

Confession time: today’s Lingerie Battle Royal is actually a last minute substitute.  I was going to write about the Agent Provocateur “Whip Me” Stockings and the ASOS “Love Seam” Tights…but between when I discovered the tights and when I decided to post them, they sold out.  Bummer.  Hopefully, ASOS will restock soon, and if they do, you can be sure I’ll let you know on my Facebook and Twitter.

In a way though, I’m kind of glad the ASOS tights sold out because today’s Look for Less feature is a pretty major fashion find.  ;)

In the left corner, we’ve got Alexander McQueen’s uber-rare, super limited edition lace leggings.  Retailing for the not-small sum of $107 at AlexanderMcQueen.com (and that’s the sale price!) these patchwork leggings are on their way to becoming collector’s items.  Undoubtedly, Alexander McQueen’s untimely death early last year has something to do with this as lace leggings were one of the last looks he featured.

In the right corner, we have Jonathan Aston’s Heavy Ornamental Net Leggings.  Jonathan Aston is actually one of my favorite hosiery brands, and that’s because he’s able to take high end, runway designs and translate them into affordable prices for the High Street buyer (to borrow a British phrase).  These leggings are more expensive than his usual offerings, they’re still a bargain compared to Alexander McQueen at only $51.72.

Now it’s time for you to decide dear readers.  Are these leggings a purchase…or pass?

The Lingerie Addict: New Year’s Resolutions for 2011

You know, it’s taken me awhile to figure out what I wanted to kick off the new year with here on The Lingerie Addict.  The problem wasn’t a shortage of ideas (in fact, I spent most of my blog vacation dreaming up articles for the new year); I just had trouble figuring out where to start. So many amazing things happened here last year, and I truly feel like this is just the tip of the metaphorical iceberg.

I want The Lingerie Addict to be the best resource anywhere for everything related to lingerie. And I am so committed to that idea, so passionate about making that happen, that I’m going to really push myself and try a few new things that are, admittedly, very, very scary to me.

They say making your goals public can often help you achieve them, so, with that in mind, here are my resolutions for The Lingerie Addict this year.

1) A renewed commitment to 100% honesty, 100% of the time.  This one might sound a little weird because honesty has always been my goal. But last year’s sudden influx of advertisers, PR reps, and media contacts taught me one very important thing…you can’t put a price on integrity.

I can’t tell you how many advertising opportunities I turned down last year.  And I’m not saying that to brag…I’m saying that because I want you to know that I don’t see you as just a way to make a quick buck.  I value the trust you put in me and in what I say here, and I refuse to throw that away for just a couple of dollars.

So what does that mean? Well, for one thing, it means that you will always be able to find the companies I have an affiliate relationship with in the Site Policies section of my blog.  It also means that you can expect to see more posts similar in theme to Why Doesn’t the Lingerie Industry Like Women of Color?  This is going to be a year of tough questions and even tougher articles.

2) More independent designers.  You want to know something else I learned last year?  There are a lot of amazing lingerie brands out there that we never hear about because the designer can’t afford a PR team or an advertising campaign or an endless supply of samples to send to major media outlets.

I know The Lingerie Addict is just a small fish in a big pond, but I want to do something to change that and you can expect to see more independent designers featured here in 2011.  In fact, I’ve already gotten started with The Scanties and Designer Interviews.

3) Photos, videos, and podcasts! Perhaps my most ambitious goal of the year, I want to go full-on multimedia in 2011.  One of my mantras (which you’ve probably seen if you follow me on Twitter) is “Lingerie is fashion too.”  And in the same way that fashion bloggers often post photos of their outfits, I want to start doing the same with lingerie (take a look at this photo-illustrated Made by Niki review to see what I have in mind).

I’m also looking forward to posting more videos to the Lingerie Addict YouTube Channel with everything from video blog posts to how-tos to coverage of major industry events (like CurvExpo) eligible for inclusion.  Finally, I want to play with podcasts.  I love the idea of taking the “Ask the Addict” feature and making it audible (and downloadable!).  But, of course, I’ll need your help generating content so follow me on Facebook and Twitter if you’d like to know how and when you can contribute.

That looks like plenty to start with.  After all, I want to make sure I can actually finish these goals!  As always, your feedback is incredibly important to me, and I’d love to hear what you think of this post in the comments.  I’m ready to make some amazing things happen in 2011!

What’s Your Lingerie Personality?

All the Results:

Sexy Siren–The sexy siren (a.k.a. the “Silver Screen Seductress.”) is all about the glamorous days of old. Think floor length robes, silk slips, and fine lace bra sets. For the Sexy Siren, lingerie is the point; everything else is just window dressing. And it goes without saying that whatever the Sexy Siren wears has to be of the very best quality; anything less than luxurious simply won’t do. Sexy Sirens will want to take a look at the UK brand Fleur of England, and specifically the collection Keepsake.

Comfy Cutie–The Comfy Cutie wears lingerie, but she prefers to feel like she isn’t wearing anything at all. Soft, unstructured pieces that let her body move and breathe are ideal for the Comfy Cutie, and even better if they’re constructed of naturally soft fabrics like bamboo or silk.. Sophisticated but uncomplicated, the Comfy Cutie should check out Brulee, a handcrafted line out of New York City,

Kinky Kitten–Whips and chains and corsets, oh my! A daring diva unafraid of anything, the Kinky Kitten will often try lingerie that intimidates the average woman. Open cup bras don’t scare her, nor does any lingerie with word strapless, backless, or crotchless in the title. Lascivious is a good fit for the Kinky Kitten…even if you only want to be one for a night!

Basic Betty–People often confuse basic with boring, but really the Basic Betty is a woman who understands the practical side of lingerie and sees no reason to muck up a perfectly good thing with sequins, ruffles, and bows. The Basic Betty’s focus is on fit, not fashion, and the simpler the silhouette, the better. Basic Betties might like Sexy Panties and Naughty Knickers, which features colorful fabrics in simple styles.

Vintage Vixen–The vintage vixen loves crinolines, Mad Men, and victory rolls. Wasp waisted dresses are her thing, and she wears retro accessories like gloves, stockings, and fascinators with no irony at all. The Vintage Vixen is an expert at finding things in garage sales, flea markets, and clearance bins, but if she wants something a little less used, Secrets in Lace (which was making bullet bras and garter belts even before they came back in fashion) is the place for her.
