If you’ve been visiting my blog for the past few months, you’ve likely noticed many new things. From the domain to the design to the advertising, I’ve made quite a few adjustments recently. Lots of people have written via e-mail to tell me what they think of these changes, so many in fact, that I felt compelled to address their questions in a response available to everyone.
Before I begin though, I just want to say “Thank You.” I can’t tell you how much it means to me that you give my lingerie blog the gift of your time. I don’t ever want to take it for granted, which is why it’s so important to me to be as transparent as possible. So let’s address a few of the major concerns I’m hearing–
Q: Your blog has gone from Stockings Addict to Stockings & Lingerie to Lingerie Addict. Does that mean you won’t talk about stockings anymore?
A: No, that definitely won’t happen! I’m changing my blog domain because the first one, Stockings Addict, didn’t really describe what I was doing here anymore. If you go back to my very first posts, I wrote exclusively about stockings. But as I discovered (and fell in love with) other kinds of lingerie, I began writing about that too. I feel like The Lingerie Addict is a better representation of what my blog is about, and what I want it to become. But believe me, I will never stop talking about stockings.
Q: What’s up with all the new advertising? You never used to have advertising.
A: You’re right. The advertising is new, and I thought really long and hard before deciding to add it. In fact, my blog was a year and a half old before I even began using Google Adsense! I added advertising this year for two main reasons. One, all the brands that have ad spots on the blog are brands I’ve talked about repeatedly before. Your trust is important to me, and I will never shill for a company whose products I don’t believe in. Two, my blog takes a lot of time, and as I’ve gotten more serious about blogging in the past few months, I’ve realized that I need money to do some of the things I want to do (like change domains or have pretty templates). I’m not wealthy enough to pay for these things out-of-pocket, so advertising helps defray the cost. I believe in full disclosure, and you will find all of the companies I have an advertising relationship with under Site Policies.
Q: Why are you making people sign up for a newsletter? All your content should be freely available on the blog, and most people don’t want the hassle of having to open up yet another e-mail.
A: I hear what you’re saying, and I want to emphasize that I’m not making anyone do anything. Signing up for my newsletter, much like visiting my blog, is entirely optional. I have lots of new and exciting things in store for this year, and the newsletter is a way to opt in for all of that. Newsletter subscribers get exclusive content that will never appear on the blog, along with first access to any new products or services The Lingerie Addict offers for 2010. And if you’re worried about spam, let me assure you that I hate the stuff too. I will always treat your personal information with the same care and respect as I treat my own.
