Ask the Addict: What Is Going on with Your Blog, Treacle?

If you’ve been visiting my blog for the past few months, you’ve likely noticed many new things. From the domain to the design to the advertising, I’ve made quite a few adjustments recently.  Lots of people have written via e-mail to tell me what they think of these changes, so many in fact, that I felt compelled to address their questions in a response available to everyone.

Before I begin though, I just want to say “Thank You.”  I can’t tell you how much it means to me that you give my lingerie blog the gift of your time.  I don’t ever want to take it for granted, which is why it’s so important to me to be as transparent as possible. So let’s address a few of the major concerns I’m hearing–

Q: Your blog has gone from Stockings Addict to Stockings & Lingerie to Lingerie Addict.  Does that mean you won’t talk about stockings anymore?
A: No, that definitely won’t happen!  I’m changing my blog domain because the first one, Stockings Addict, didn’t really describe what I was doing here anymore.  If you go back to my very first posts, I wrote exclusively about stockings.  But as I discovered (and fell in love with) other kinds of lingerie, I began writing about that too.  I feel like The Lingerie Addict is a better representation of what my blog is about, and what I want it to become.  But believe me, I will never stop talking about stockings.

Q: What’s up with all the new advertising?  You never used to have advertising.
A: You’re right.  The advertising is new, and I thought really long and hard before deciding to add it.  In fact, my blog was a year and a half old before I even began using Google Adsense!  I added advertising this year for two main reasons.  One, all the brands that have ad spots on the blog are brands I’ve talked about repeatedly before.  Your trust is important to me, and I will never shill for a company whose products I don’t believe in.  Two, my blog takes a lot of time, and as I’ve gotten more serious about blogging in the past few months, I’ve realized that I need money to do some of the things I want to do (like change domains or have pretty templates).  I’m not wealthy enough to pay for these things out-of-pocket, so advertising helps defray the cost.  I believe in full disclosure, and you will find all of the companies I have an advertising relationship with under Site Policies.

Q: Why are you making people sign up for a newsletter?  All your content should be freely available on the blog, and most people don’t want the hassle of having to open up yet another e-mail.
A: I hear what you’re saying, and I want to emphasize that I’m not making anyone do anything.  Signing up for my newsletter, much like visiting my blog, is entirely optional.  I have lots of new and exciting things in store for this year, and the newsletter is a way to opt in for all of that.  Newsletter subscribers get exclusive content that will never appear on the blog, along with first access to any new products or services The Lingerie Addict offers for 2010.  And if you’re worried about spam, let me assure you that I hate the stuff too.  I will always treat your personal information with the same care and respect as I treat my own.

These three questions summarize the majority of feedback, I’ve gotten lately, but I want to open up this post for any questions you might have.  Feel free to ask me something in the comments or send an e-mail to the.lingerie.addict@gmail.com.  You can also contact me via FormSpring.  I promise to respond.

6 Luscious Lingerie Sales

Happy Saturday, everyone, and congratulations on making it to another weekend!  I don’t know about you, but I’m in kind of a slump right now.  I’m tired of all the winter weather and the too-short days.  But lingerie tends to cheer me up, and on the off chance it has the same effect on you, you’re going to want to check out these lingerie sales!~

Figleaves, my first stop for designer lingerie, is taking 20% off everything in the store until 2/21/10.  This is an excellent opportunity to pick up the latest lingerie before your size sells out.  I’m really digging this Lascivious bra & garter panty.  But these Charnos sheer dot tights are a steal at only $8 and right on trend.

Ayten Gasson, an UK designer who make pure silk lingerie with vintage flair, is taking 15% off everything utnil 3/14/10 with the code Iheartme.  I really love the Grace teddy, which is perfect for all you bridal lingerie shoppers.

Secrets in Lace, a brand famous worldwide for their authentic retro stockings, bullet bras, and garter belts, just added dozens of items to their sale section.  The Diamond RHT stockings, Gretchen lace panty, and Gretchen longline bra are my top picks from this sale.

Mio Destino is taking 20% off all their new lingerie arrivals until 2/28/10 with the code SPRING10.  My favorite look is this Mimi Holliday leopard print balcony bra.

American Apparel is currently running the annual, trademarked promotion PantyTime until 2/21/10.  Get 30% off your purchase or $30 or more with the code PANTYTIME10.  I’m in love with this micromesh bodysuit.

Mary Green (a designer who’s popping up in all the fashion magazines now) is taking up to 75% off clearance items.  No returns and no exchanges so buy carefully.  I think these lace boyshorts are calling my name.

Found a sale, steal, or discount of your own?  Definitely share it with us in the comments!

P.S. That first photo is one of me from a couple of years back.  I completely forgot my friend Photognome had taken it until it appeared on someone else’s Facebook.  Maybe I should ask him to do more?

P.P.S. Don’t forget to become a Google Follower if you haven’t already!

Look for Less: Agent Provocateur Snake Backseam Stockings

***I don’t know why, but the thumbnail photo isn’t showing.  However, I promise there are photos if you click the title link!***

It’s a Backseam Battle Royale!

In the red corner, we’ve got Agent Provocateur’s Snake Hold-up Stockings.  Perfect for luxury lovers, these thigh highs retail for $60 and feature a sinuous serpent slinking down the back of each leg.

In the blue corner, we have Asos’ version–nude, sheer tights with a winding, writhing reptile instead of the traditional backseam.  And a near steal at only $14.20!

Whose hosiery will come out on top?  Are the Agent Provocateur’s a must have, no matter the cost?  Or are the Asos pantyhose a suitable (or, dare I say it,  preferable) alternative?  Inquiring minds want to know, so tell me in the comments!

P.S. I know this post was a bit silly, but if you enjoyed reading it, please stumble me!

Update: Katie, the lingerie sale maven over at KnickersBlog, found an even better budget version of the snake seam tights.  No idea who made them, but they seem to match the Agent Provocateur’s almost exactly.  And they’re still only $20.  Thanks, Katie!

Ask the Addict: Who Made Natalia Vodianova’s Lace Leggings?

Happy President’s Day everyone!  Now that Valentine’s Day is over, we’re returning to our regular format and features.  Today’s question comes from Kim, author of the All the Looks Insider blog at MyLifetime.com.

Q: Love your site! I saw these lace leggings on model Natalia – and fell in love.  I think they are Gianfranco Ferre but not certain – can you determine who they are or find a very good copy with such sinewy fine detail?

A:  Thanks so much for writing!  Natalia Vodianova’s leggings aren’t leggings at all, but are actually a stirrup bodystocking she designed for European lingerie retailer, Etam.

I wasn’t able to find another lace stirrup bodysuit, but American Apparel does carry lace stirrup leggings which may be an acceptable substitute, especially for folks on this side of the pond.  Hope this helps!

My Valentine’s Day Outfit: Girdles, Wiggle Dresses, & Trench Coats

The Boyfriend and I had a fantastic Valentine’s weekend!  On Friday, we went out to dinner to celebrate my appearances on WiseBread and The Consumerist (he’s amazingly supportive of my lingerie blog).  Then on Saturday, we started Valentine’s Day a bit early and went out for tapas at a local wine bar followed by a burlesque show put on by the delightful performers at Columbia City Cabaret.  He doesn’t read my blog, so I feel okay saying this here…but I really, really like him.  Like, a lot.

Okay…enough gushing! Onto my outfit.  The trench coat comes from Gryphon NY, the dress is by Heartbreaker Fashion (only $50 and handmade to order!), the belt is by Betsey Johnson, the corselette (another name for a girdle dress) is from Kiss Me Deadly, the knickers are from Secrets in Lace, the stockings are fully-fashioned vintage purchased at Dollhouse Bettie (unfortunately, they’re too torn up to ever wear again), and the pearl necklace was won in a giveaway over on Cafe Fashionista

So…what do you think of my little ensemble?  And did you all wear anything special today?

Why Sexy Lingerie is Important…Even If You’re Single

February is the time of year when many romantic couples give and receive lingerie. Lingerie is a wonderful gift, of course, but what about if you’re spending Valentine’s Day alone? Just you, a box of chocolates, and a romantic comedy or two? Well, you deserve sexy lingerie too! “But Treacle,” you might protest, “No one’s gonna see it, so what’s the point?” And to that I respond “Darling…lingerie is never about him. It’s always about you.” Here are my three reasons for why single ladies, maybe more than anyone else, should always rock the sexy knickers.

1) Wearing something sexy will make you feel sexy. That’s great in and of itself, but feeling sexy also  improves your confidence and improved confidence means better success in all aspects of your life.  I’ve read stories of boardroom execs who win the big contract after wearing a garter belt and stockings beneath their business suit, of new college grads who get their dream jobs after buying a lacy bra and panty set, of single chick who never stopped wearing their naughty lingerie and snagged a new guy quicker than you can say “Granny Panties”.  People know when you’re confident. Sexy lingerie (whatever sexy means to you) is an easy, inconspicious way of adding confidence.

2) Gorgeous lingerie puts you back in touch with your sensuality. The sight, the touch, the scent… they’re all reminders that you are a sensual being with erotic potential even if that potential isn’t currently in use.  I don’t advertise the fact, but I’ve been single for most of the time I’ve had my blog.  That means almost all the sexy lingerie I buy and review has never been seen by another person.  I wear it around the house, while lounging or doing laundry or writing the blog.  It’s so easy to lapse into feeling asexual when you’re not in a relationship.  Sexy lingerie is a way of keeping those embers warm.

3) Because you just never know. It may sound cliched, but it’s true.  Today might be the day…not for the love of your life, necessarily, but for a pleasant flirtation or romp between the sheets.  Do you really want to have your stretched out floral cotton undies on when that happens?  Whatever you’re wearing underneath should be at least as nice as what you’re wearing on top.  Oh, and remember what your Momma said about always wearing nice underwear in case you have go in the ambulance?  Yeah….that’s a good reason too.
I’m not saying you have to bust out the fringed g-string and vinyl bustier for a quiet evening at home (What?  You don’t own one?).  What I am saying is that it’s okay to splurge on yourself.  To quote the legendary Dita von Teese, “Lingerie is not about seducing men, it’s about embracing womanhood.”  Truer words have never been spoken.

Valentine’s Day Lingerie–Cameo Intimates

We’re almost done with our Valentine’s Day Lingerie Extravaganza, but there’s one more company I want to feature–Cameo Intimates.  Of all the retailers I’ve highlighted on the blog, they are the only one I know of that makes custom-fitted lingerie at an affordable price.  Everything is sewn made-to-order by a collection of fabulous seamstress who are paid a fair wage for their labor.

Even more surpisingly, Cameo Intimates has one of the most generous return policies I’ve ever heard of.  If you don’t like something, you have six months to send it back, no questions asked.  In fact, I think the only downside (and I’m using the word loosely here) is that you might have to practice a little patience while waiting on your hand-crafted knickers in the mail.  ;-)

I know a lot of you may not have heard of Cameo Intimates before, and I know how hard it is to try something knew, especially when it comes to your underwear.  So I’ve got an exclusive coupon for readers of The Lingerie Addict.  Use the code caTENy9L at checkout and receive 10% off your order, no matter the size.

I’ve ordered from Cameo Intimates several times, so if you have questions at all about the process, don’t hesitate to comment here or e-mail me.  For now, I want to show you some of the pieces on my lust list!

 Longline Garter Belt–$46.88
Stretch Bullet Bra & Polka Dot Full Brief–$93.76
“Nearly Naked” Sheer Bra & Panty–$105.90
Sheer Bullet Bra & Sheer Full Panty–$107.90
Lace Dream Bullet Bra & Garter Belt–$117.76

How to Buy Lingerie for Your Wife, Girlfriend, or Significant Other

OMG…Wisebread, a blog I check everyday for “life hacks,” just published one of my articles titled “4 Easy Steps to Buying Lingerie for Your Wife, Girlfriend, or Significant Other.”  In it, I take you through the 4 S’s of Lingerie Shopping–Sizing, Style, Sticker, and Salesperson.  It’s getting some great feedback, but I won’t rest easy until I hear what you all think.  Click the link and let me know?
