Why Write A Stockings Blog?

Stockings Addict has been around for almost 18 months now. The other day, while feeling a bit nostalgic and reading some old articles from last year, I realized I have never once explained to you, my readers, why I write this blog. In recent weeks, several meaningful conversations with fellow bloggers have made it abundantly clear to me why it is I do what I do. I’ve narrowed by thoughts down to four general statements, and I’d like to share them here.

1) I write Stockings Addict because I genuinely love stockings, and need a place to talk about them without driving my offline friends crazy. When my hosiery addiction began in Winter/Spring 2008, I was eager to share my discoveries with my friends. Every new pair of nylons was a revelation. From the moment I realized Leg Avenue wasn’t my only option for fishnet stockings to the instant I understood why people might spend $40 on tights, I found myself craving a venue to discuss these things. Sadly, while my offline friends are wonderful people, none of them could care less about my newest obsession, and so I turned to the internet before I drove them all away.

2) I write Stockings Addict to fill the void in substantive lingerie and stockings reviews. When I first started building a lingerie wardrobe, I found almost no resources for the budding enthusiast. Though my blog isn’t as review-centric as when I first started writing, I still consider product reviews an essential feature of Stockings Addict. I want people to be able to come here, search for products they’re interested in trying, and find a review by someone who isn’t paid, sponsored, or subsidized by the manufacturer.

3) I write Stockings Addict to bridge the gap between fetish and fashion. In the past 18 months, I’ve noticed most lingerie blogs fall into one of two broad categories. They are either all about fetish (sex, sex, sex!) and no one writes about the subjective experience of wearing stockings. Or the blog is about the fashion, and the entries feel overly sanitized with no addressing the sensual side of lingerie. I see Stockings Addict as a place to promote the following message: it’s okay for women to buy pretty things for themselves and it’s okay to wear those pretties everyday.

4) I write Stockings Addict because I like connecting with other lovers of lingerie.
As I mentioned in a post a couple of days ago, I love it when designers, retailers, fellow bloggers, and other lingerie aficionados comment on my posts. I’m not web savvy enough to create a literal forum, but I try very hard to replicate the feel of one on this blog. I want people, no matter what their interest in lingerie and stockings, to feel comfortable coming here. And that’s why I don’t post pornography or allow degrading comments.

From the very beginning, I’ve viewed my blog as a personal project, and any visitors as an added bonus. To me, the blogging is the reward, like a scoop of ice cream on a hot summer day. My readers? Well, you all are the nuts, whipped cream, hot fudge sauce and cherry on top. I’d enjoy my ice cream without all that, but I’ll savor every bite with it…and that is why I value you.

    How about this:

You write Stockings Addict because you have discovered a whole bunch of people who love reading what you have to say on the topic of stockings and lingerie. (And we can't wait to see what you might say next.)

    Awwww…thanks, Janus!

I've been really been struggling with wondering if I should change what I'm doing here. Comments like this remind me that the people I want reading my blog are already reading it.

I can build you a web community if you're willing to move to WordPress and pay about $8/month for your webhosting. It would thrill me to death to do that. Even a basic WordPress blog would offer you many more options for enhancing the conversation. Keep it in mind.

BTW…I'm delighted to be one of it's nuts. :)

I love the balance you have struck between fetish and fashion here. It can also be characterized as a balance or blending of voyeurism and participation. You invite your readers not just to look from a safe distance, but to experience the sensuality of lovely legwear for themselves. And you do it in a classy way. Nothing smarmy or skeevy around here. :-)

I've just discovered your blog, and it has instantly become one of my absolutely favorite blogs. Thank you!

I love the fact that you review all kinds of lingerie, not just hoisery, and I really hope you never cool off and never stop. Please keep up the great work!

I myself am into corsets, bras and lingerie, and I always shop online, although I'm having a bit of difficulty in finding something suitable for a large cup/small band combination ))))

    Hi Olga!

Thank you so much for your encouraging words! I feel like I need to bookmark this post, and come back to it whenever I feel like quitting. :-)

As for large cup, small band bras…I don't know of any lingerie companies which specialize in those, but I do know that Figleaves.com has the best lingerie selection (in terms of sizes, brands, and colors) on the internet. I'd recommend stopping there first.
