Yay! I’ve Got a Vintage Playtex Rubber Girdle!

I read somewhere that “luck is where opportunity meets preparation,” and I think that’s just as true in the lingerie world as anywhere else.

Just before leaving Georgia, I discovered what may be the most stereotypical piece of vintage lingerie ever invented…the Playtex rubber girdle. My interest in an item is directly related to its eccentricity, so immediately I decided I had to have one.

The only catch? Every Playtex rubber girdle I found cost into the hundreds of dollars. I’m talking $549 at Dollhouse Bettie, $265 at Stocking Showcase, even E-bay was auctioning one for $354.99 at last glance. We’re in a recession; all those were simply out my price range.

Undiscouraged, I kept looking and looking and finally hit paydirt in the place nobody ever remembers–Etsy. There, I found a vintage Playtex rubber girdle, complete with its original packaging for only $139.00. I bought it straightaway, and it fits like a dream (for the extra curious, I wore the girdle with these vintage Victory Lace stockings).

There’s no point to this story really, other than that it feels good when all that research pays off in me getting what I want. :-)

Hmmm…well the first thing I noticed is that it still has a very pungent latex rubber odor. Not offensive, just fresh…almost medical.

The rubber is actually kind of thick, and the girdle itself is constructed of two layers–an inner, smooth rubber layer and an outer, perforated rubber layer. The outer rubber also has what looks like a flower petal design on the midsection.

Putting it on, the first thing you notice is that this is basically an industrial strength girdle…more flexible than the corset/girdle hybrids, but still very firm. It's a bit like wearing a very tight pair of rubber gloves.

All in all, I'd say it's a different sensation from the powernet girdles I own, but not necessarily unpleasant. It's not a girdle I see myself wearing under clothes (rubber doesn't breathe all that well), but I may wear it out to the club some evening as a costume & conversation piece.

I hope all that answered your question. :-)

The best complement to this spectacular lingerie is a "special" lingerie. See more in http://www.sinlesstouch.com/lingerie.html
